Having arrived at the pitch in heavy fog, Devizes ladies were not keen to leave the changing rooms; much less face the top of the table, unbeaten, City of Bath side who had conceded only one goal in the season so far.

Devizes came out of the blocks on fire though. They played an excellent passing game up front with links through from Becci Meredith and Joanne Wicks. Pressure on the goalie led to their first goal only a few minutes into the game.

Devizes continued to intercept passes and defend strongly. City of Bath’s slick passing game found them in the Devizes D on numerous occasions, but excellent saves from Alice Blewitt and fortunate wide shots kept them off the scoreboard. COB won a lot of short corners in the 1st half and tried every routine they had, but could not find the back of the net.

Devizes continued to get the ball up front and shortly before half time won a short corner. A straight strike from Lorna Myerscough left Devizes 2-0 up at half time.

After half time tiredness kicked in, and Devizes gave away lots of sloppy free hits outside the D. Devizes were soon pressured and COB scored a good goal.

Despite this Devizes kept up their game and COB could not keep them out of the D. A remarkable cross from Joanne Wicks found Becci Meredith at the back post to seal the game at 3-1: most definitely the game and the performance of the season. Man of the Match: Lorna Myerscough.
