Team Bath Buccs C V Devizes Mens 1s
By Tracy Hodge
The men's 1's had a late afternoon pushback in the rain, but convincingly beat Bath 7-2. The short corner routines were working well, Roger Edwards converting two in the first 15 minutes with Bath scoring a fortunate deflection from a goalmouth scramble. Ollie Smith then set Andy Tookey up for a simple tap in from a yard, before finishing a dazzling individual run with a lob into the top left corner. Bath again struck back after two excellent saves from Joe Edwards, powerless to stop a third hitting the backboard, 4-2 at half time.
Knowing a goal would kill off the tie Devizes roared out in the second half, holding Bath in their own half. The pressure told with a reckless challenge from Bath seeing a green card, Devizes breaking immediately for Ollie Smith to finish. Two more short corners were ruthlessly dispatched by Roger Edwards, with Bath having a few last moment options through Devizes indiscipline. Man of the Match was Tom Stoner for a dominate performance all over the pitch, passing and tackling.
